Roseville Police and Animal Control remind pet owners to avoid "hot
dogs" in the summer! During our warm months, it's neither safe nor kind to
leave a
pet inside a parked vehicle. Even on a pleasantly warm day, the
temperature inside a parked vehicle can quickly climb to 120
degrees. Dogs and cats can't perspire, and can only dispel heat by
panting, or through the pads of their feet. An overheated pet can
suffer from heat exhaustion, heat stroke, brain damage, and can even
die.
Don't risk your pet's health. Unless you're driving your pet directly to and from the
vet, the dog park or another pet destination, let it stay safe and cool
at home.
Leaving a pet in an unventilated vehicle is not only unkind, it's
against state law, and police and animal control officers can cite the
responsible party.
