|UPDATE: We're happy to report that Ivo has been located in good condition and reunited with his handler. A private citizen found the dog last night, and took it to the Placer SPCA shelter this afternoon. He's now been positively identified and reunited with his handler.|
At about 9 p.m. July 4, a police dog from the Santa Clara Police Department reacted to fireworks and escaped from the back yard of a home in West Park, near Pleasant Grove Boulevard and Fiddyment Road. His handler let him out in the back yard for a minute, and a loud firework went off nearby. Before the handler could contain him, the dog jumped over the fence and ran. The handler and Roseville Police officers searched the area, but haven't yet been able to locate the dog. More members of the Santa Clara Police Department are coming to Roseville today to continue the search.
The missing K9, named Ivo (pronounced EE-VOO), is a five-year-old male German Shepherd, tan and black in color, weighing about 72 pounds. He has an identifying tattoo in one of his ears, and was wearing a chain collar when he ran away. If you see him, please don't try to catch or handle him (or any other frightened or potentially aggressive dog you don't know). Instead, keep an eye on him and immediately call the Roseville Police Department at (916)774-5000 ext. 1, or call your local law enforcement agency.
Many dogs get startled by fireworks and run away around the 4th of July holiday period. Anytime you've lost or found a pet in the Roseville area, please report it to the Placer SPCA. They're the community's clearinghouse for lost and found pets, to help reunite pets with their owners.
