On Oct. 26, 2013, the Roseville Police Activities League (RPAL) and McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. will dedicate a day of service to renovate and revitalize the RPAL Gym. The gym provides Roseville youth – many of whom are underprivileged or at risk – with a safe and supervised environment that provides exposure to positive influences and diversion programs. RPAL offers myriad activities, such as fitness classes, community service projects, homework help, mentoring from police officers and youth breakout groups that address different topics pertaining to positive life choices. The gym is supported by grants, volunteers, fundraising and donations.
The Community Day will focus on repair and cleanup, as well as a renovation of the gym’s exterior. Volunteers will fix the plumbing system, repair dry rot, repair the parking lot, build shelving and benches, and install new hardscape and concrete to fill holes. The renovation will include the replacement of the current façade with a glass storefront to provide an inviting exterior, as well as the construction of an outdoor gathering space.
Approximately 25 volunteers from McCarthy will contribute to the improvement efforts as part of their “Heart Hats” community involvement program dedicated to encouraging, supporting and recognizing McCarthy employees’ volunteer efforts in their local communities. Volunteers will also come from RPAL, LPA, Inc. and Alcal Specialty Contracting, Inc. All materials and labor will be donated by McCarthy and the other community partners.
“At McCarthy, we love to share our craft and time to benefit local nonprofits, especially where our employee-owners live and work,” said Ryan Heeter, senior vice president of operations at McCarthy’s Sacramento region office in Roseville. “In choosing RPAL for this year’s annual community day, we know we can make a significant impact on the quality of the gym facility. It will be a wonderful and rewarding effort for the at-risk youth in Roseville who need and deserve a safe, fun and supportive place that also exposes them to positive adult influences and mentoring from law enforcement officers.”
"The gym is central to the RPAL’s mission to enrich the lives of the youth of Roseville,” said Roseville Police Sergeant Josh Simon. “We are grateful to McCarthy for leading the charge and coordinating needed improvements of our facility. This revitalization will make our gym more inviting and functional so our programs and volunteers can provide the best care and environment for our region’s youth.”
The media is invited to attend the event, tour the area and schedule interviews with RPAL and McCarthy.
