The Roseville City Council approved Roseville Electric's Rate Adjustment Proposal at its March 20 meeting.

The action means customers, on average, will see a two percent increase in their electric charges beginning July 1, 2013 and July 1, 2014.

Roseville Electric officials sought the rate action to help meet the costs associated with the state's renewable energy requirements. All electric utilities are required to have 33 percent of its total energy provided to customers generated from eligible renewable resources by 2020. To meet the new state requirements, Roseville Electric's annual energy costs have increased by $9 million.

The City Counci's unanimous approval requires a second reading of the ordinance, which will be considered on Wednesday, April 3.
