Planet Protector School Programs

Field trips are offered Tuesday - Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
Help your students join our team of Planet Protectors! These programs combine a guided discovery of the exhibit hall with a hands-on science activity in our technology laboratory. Each program has pre-and-post activities found online to extend and integrate a visit with your classroom instruction in language arts, mathematics and science. All field trips to the Roseville Utility Exploration Center are correlated to California Content Standards as well as the Education and the Environment Initiative.

The 1st - 6th grade field trips are designed for a minimum of 10 students with a max accommodation of 70. Classes with more than 35 students are divided into two groups and rotated through the exhibit hall and our technology lab for a hands-on science activity. Teachers and parent chaperones participate as "lab assistants" to assist students during the experiment portion of the program.

For more information, please contact Melissa Kinsey, Program Coordinator, at 916.746.1553.

FREE Tour Add-Ons
Zero-Waste Lunch Dump
Bring Your lunches and eat in the outside courtyard (or meeting rooms on rainy days). After lunch, we will conduct a "lunch dump" where students explore and categorize the stuff they tossed in the trash after lunch. Some of the leftover food is fed to our worms in our worms composting bin.
Allow 45 minutes to 1 hour after your tour for lunch and this FREE add-on activity. A gift shop is available to visit
(in small groups) during your lunch break.

Martha Riley Library Tour
(Wednesdays and Fridays Only)
Located in the same building as the Exploration Center, the Martha Riley Library has an extensive collection of media. The Library houses environmental books and periodicals, plus over 40 internet-connected public computers for further green research. Free tours on how to use the library can be requested as library staffing allows. Check the box on the application form if interested.
Allow an additional 45 minutes to 1 hour for a library tour.
