Position Description:SALARY RANGE: $4733 to $6660 per month (26 pay periods annually)

THE POSITION
The Human Resources Department is accepting applications for the position of Power Plant Mechanic for Roseville Electric The normal work schedule will be Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

DEFINITION:
Receives general direction from higher level supervisory staff in the performance of maintenance, operation, and repair of stationary engines and mechanical equipment such as gas turbine engines, steam turbines, diesel engines, generators, heat recovery steam generators, gas compressors, air compressors, motors, pumps and other associated equipment within an electrical generating facility.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Incorporates safe behavior into all activities and consistently complies with all established safety and health policies and procedures; helps to identify, and eliminate or actively manage risks in work activities; performs corrective and preventive maintenance on mechanical rotating equipment and electrical equipment in accordance with plant and vendor procedures; identifies and corrects problems on rotating equipment, boilers and auxiliary equipment as needed; provides recommendations for repair or replacement of defective mechanical and electrical equipment; requests parts and supplies to perform work; receives, unloads and correctly stores parts and supplies in the plant.; safely operates forklift, man-lift and/or other mechanical equipment; maintains logs, manuals, records, blueprints and operating procedures in a neat and professional manner; provides written reports on mechanical system conditions when required; provides recommendations to maximize plant efficiency without degrading personnel and equipment safety practices, environmental permit conditions or the long-term operation of the plant; provides documentation of work performed, supplies used, and other items that will be required to plan and control plant maintenance activities; prepares records and reports as required performs housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean safe work environment and professional appearance; perform additional tasks as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write the English language at a level necessary for successful job performance.

Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of work experience in a power plant, chemical processing plant, oil refinery or other similar industrial facility troubleshooting, repairing, and/or replacing mechanical, electrical and rotating equipment. Successful completion of a two-year technical trade school education in the areas of welding, or mechanical and electrical rotating equipment may be substituted for one year of work experience.

Knowledge of: Mechanical, electrical and rotating equipment; compressor, pump, motor and fan maintenance, such as disassembly, rebuilding, reassembly and alignments; pipe fitting and various welding techniques; troubleshooting and problem diagnosis in systems.

Ability to: Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, blueprints, equipment specifications, and vendor service manuals; understand, develop and/or complete records and reports as required; write routine reports and correspondence; communicate effectively; add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; use a calculator to perform the above calculations; interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form; work without direct supervision.

On a continuous basis: Operate, repair and maintain combined cycle power plant equipment; read and interpret gauges and other recording devices reflecting combined cycle power plant operations; work in the absence of supervision; diagnose operating problems and take effective courses of action; know and understand all aspects of the job; know, understand, interpret and explain policies, procedures, regulations and relevant codes to staff; analyze and solve maintenance problems and take appropriate action.

Intermittently: Twist and lift equipment sufficiently to perform repair duties; talk, see and hear with sufficient acuity to successfully perform all aspects of the job; perform simple grasping or fine manipulation; use telephone, computer and communicate through written means; climb stairs and or ladders for equipment inspections and repairs up to a height of eighty feet with appropriate personal protection equipment.

Working Conditions: On a continuous basis, work both outdoors and indoors in plant/office environment; may be exposed to dust, noise, slippery or uneven surfaces, machinery, moving objects and other vehicles; exposed to constant equipment vibration for prolonged periods of time; work unusual and prolonged work schedules; work overtime and call outs on an as-needed basis; work multiple shifts during emergencies; seasonally-caused circumstances in varying climate and temperature conditions: frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and smell; regularly exposed to loud noises; frequently work near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions; occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock with appropriate personal protection equipment.

License or Certificate: Possess or ability to possess an appropriate valid California Driver's License.

SELECTION PROCESS
Applications will be screened to the most qualified candidates. Those candidates will be invited to an oral interview exam weighted 100%. Scores earned from the oral exam will establish the Employment List. Candidates within the top five ranked scores will be certified to the department for final consideration. Final appointment is contingent upon a check of past employment references, passing a City-paid pre-employment medical exam, a drug and alcohol screening test, and a fingerprint check.
