At the Shopping Mall

Be Careful, Prepared and Aware

At the Shopping Mall
The holiday season is also the shopping season.  It’s also the time when busy people can become careless and vulnerable to theft and other holiday crime.  The Roseville Police Department  would like everyone to be more careful, prepared and aware during the holiday season.  Here are tips to remember.

Before you shop

·         Carry small amounts of cash.
·         Carry keys, credit cards, and cash separate from each other.
·         Be extremely careful when using ATM machines.
·         Wear minimal jewelry and dress comfortably and conservatively.
·         While driving, keep your doors locked and windows rolled up.
·         When you reach the mall, park in a busy well-lit area.
·         Don’t stash shopping bags or packages when you arrive at the parking lot.  Thieves may be watching

While shopping
·         If you carry a purse, keep it close to your body. (A fanny pack is preferable.)
·         Men should carry their wallet in a front pant pocket, rather than the back pocket or a jacket.
·         Hold onto carried items securely, and don’t leave them unattended.
·         Be aware of your surroundings at all times.

Leaving the Mall
·         Have your keys ready when you approach your vehicle.
·         If possible, walk to the parking lot with other people.
·         Ask mall security to walk you to your car if it is late and you are carrying a lot of bags.
·         If you see someone loitering near your car or who is acting suspicious walk away.
