Roseville PD making it easier to reunite theft and burglary victims with their stolen property

Last Updated: 9/4/2017

The Roseville Police Department has launched an online property room, with the goal of getting recovered property items back to their rightful owners.

Ideally, everyone should keep good records of valuable belongings including serial numbers, so that if they're stolen, they can be entered into state and national stolen property databases. Law enforcement can quickly identify such items as stolen property, and get them back to their rightful owners.

In reality, many victims don't know the serial numbers of their stolen items, or their stolen goods include jewelry and other items with no serial numbers. When officers recover such items, they don't have any way of tracing those items back to their owners, so the unclaimed items are stored in the police department's property room. If they're not claimed, eventually property room staff has to auction them off in order to make room for new items.

In an effort to get more of these unclaimed found items back to their owners, the RPD's property clerks have started an online property room here: The website includes small pictures and brief descriptions of unclaimed property.

If you've lost something or been the victim of a theft, and never got your property back, please browse through the pictures in our online property room. If you think an item might be yours, click on "claim this item" and fill out the form, including as much descriptive information about your stolen item as possible, and our staff will contact you for follow up.
