CIO - IT Communication (OC&L Organizational Culture & Leadership)

As you all are aware, the City is in the process of recreating an organizational culture plan. Changing an organization’s culture is one of the most difficult challenges a business can take on because it comprises an interlocking set of goals, roles, values, trust, communications practices, attitudes, engagement, assumptions and processes/policy & structure. Much time and effort must be invested from all of us to help better our workplace and ultimately to improve citizen satisfaction. This is why your feedback has been so important to the efforts.
At the end of this month, the City OC&L Team will deliver its findings from the exercise that we did during our IT Department Team Meeting to the Department Heads to review and set the goals and direction moving forward. From there, the OC&L Team will develop an organizational culture management plan focusing on both short-term and long-term goals. The overall goal is to roll out the plan citywide in the spring of 2015. For your own reference, I have included the citywide Organizational Culture Diagram and the IT High Performance Organization Chart that were discussed previously. Both were very closely aligned and can help us outline our goals as we progress in the months/years to come.
In addition to what we will be addressing citywide, our Department plans to continue to work internally with our IT OC&L Team and the rest of the department to address other issues and challenges. We have already started to make small & incremental changes due to the input that we have received from the IT OC&L Team. Some of these changes include how we nominate/recognize the Employee of the Quarter (valuing our employees) and Meeting Minutes for the Managers & Team Meetings (transparency/communication).
Change is continuous, and is necessary for growth and advancement in today’s world. I would like to thank you all for your participation in the OC&L exercises and for your support in this process as we all work to improve our culture & to deliver remarkable results.
