PG&E Pipeline 123


Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) owns Line 123, a natural gas pipeline serving customers in PG&E’s Sacramento and Sierra Divisions. As part of its Pipeline Safety and Enhancement Plan, PG&E proposes to replace approximately 3.1 linear miles of Line 123 located within Roseville. The project location is approximately mid-way between Woodcreek Oaks and Foothills Boulevard, extending between Blue Oaks Boulevard on the north and Baseline Road on the south.

The project proposes to both increase safety by replacing the older line, and also more than double current capacity as they replace the existing 12-inch-diameter steel pipe with a 16-inch-diameter pipe. To complete this project PG&E will utilize horizontal directional drilling, jack-and-bore, and open-trench construction in two phases. Phase 1 includes the entire length of the replacement pipeline, minus natural or preserve areas within Woodcreek Golf Club (which will be part of Phase 2). Phase 1 construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 12. Phase 1 is expected to last approximately 14 weeks.  Phase 2 construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in August 2014 and would take approximately 6 weeks to complete. (View the project location and phasing map)

What To Expect
During construction, you may see PG&E and contractor trucks and other heavy equipment in the project area. Gas service will continue without interruption in most cases. If that changes, a PG&E representative will contact the resident. Traffic will be impacted as well. PG&E will clearly mark all work areas, and traffic flaggers will help to direct traffic. To minimize impacts during school commute hours, all sidewalks will remain open. At times, people in the project area may smell gas and hear a loud, steady noise as PG&E vents natural gas from the pipeline using safe and common techniques. Although this is normal when crews are working, anyone who has concerns about the smell of gas are encourage to call PG&E 1-800-743-5000 (open 24 hours).

City Council
PG&E presented to the City Council a project overview at the July 17, 2013 meeting.  Following the initial project presentation to City Council, City and PG&E negotiated new easements and a Memorandum of Understanding for construction which covers repairs, replacement, cost of upset to the golf course, valuation on the loss of trees on Country Club Drive and within the oak tree preserve at the golf course, etc. City Council approved the project at the May 7, 2014 City Council meeting.

Work began on Monday, May 12. We will post weekly timeline information including a timelines indicating the streets, neighborhoods, and general areas in which PG&E will be working as it is made available to the City.
