Message from the Fire Marshal
|Welcome to the Fire & Life Safety Division of the Roseville Fire Department. Our goal is to improve the quality of life of our citizens through life safety education, pre-fire inspections, and fire prevention practices. The division is comprised of highly trained and certified professionals who work towards improving the level of safety in our community. || |
The division administers several programs including:
- The adoption and enforcement of the California Fire Code
- Building plan review and inspection services
- Administration of the Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA)
- Fire cause and origin investigations
Additionally, the division is the focal point of the department’s efforts to educate the public in a variety of ways to improve their level of safety at home and at work.
Whether it is conducting an annual fire safety inspection, completing an underground storage tank inspection, or approving building plans our staff is dedicated to preventing hazardous situations and fire within our community. Fire Inspection Supervisor, Patrick Chew
Patrick Chew is a Supervising Fire Inspector for the Fire and Life Safety Division coordinating the Fire Department’s role in community development and overseeing plan review activities. Patrick is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electronic Engineering. Patrick has also completed a Fire Protection Engineering Certification from UCLA and holds the following International Code Council Certifications: Fire Inspector I, II and Building Plans Examiner.

Rob Arnett is the Supervising Fire Inspector for the Fire and Life Safety Division and coordinates field operations. Rob has attained his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Safety Administration, International Code Council Fire Inspector Certificate and Fire Prevention Officer, Fire Protection Specialist and Plans Examiner Certifications through the California State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Hazardous Materials Inspector, Steve Anderson
Steve serves as coordinator of hazardous materials regulatory programs in the fire department. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health at San Jose State University, he performed regulatory/inspection work in bay area county health departments, and then in the Union City Fire Department prior to coming to Roseville in 1989. Steve is a Registered Environmental Health Specialist, a Hazardous Materials Specialist/Technician and is state certified to perform inspections of above and underground tank systems.
Fire Inspector II, Jeff Ingolia
Jeff has worked in Fire Prevention for Roseville Fire since 2003 having served in the same capacity for the Sacramento Fire Department beginning the spring of 2000. For six years prior to that, Jeff was a volunteer Fire Fighter/Engineer for the Dry Creek Fire Department. Jeff has an AA degree in Fire Technology and a BA in Public Safety Administration. He also holds an Underground Storage Tank certification from the ICC and serves as a Fire Inspector II and a Lead Fire Investigator.
Fire & Environmental Safety Inspector I, Matthew Walling
Matthew attended California State University, Sacramento where he obtained a B.S. in Health Science with a concentration in Occupational Health and Safety. He currently possesses his International Code Council California UST Inspector certification. Matthew also coordinates the departments False Alarm Program in an effort to reduce costs and minimize risk.
Fire & Environmental Safety Inspector I, Emily Richter
Emily received her B.S in Environmental and Occupation Health at the University of Washington. She is a California Underground Storage Tank inspector through the International Code Council and a Registered Environmental Health Specialist through the National Environmental Health Association. Emily is actively involved in the Youth Firesetter Program through the Firefighter Burn Institute.

Fire Technician II, Shari Tasler
Shari has worked in the Roseville Fire Department since October 1999 having served in the City’s Finance Department beginning in January 1998. For 18 years prior to that, Shari worked for Great Western Bank as a supervisor in both retail banking and real estate lending. Shari grew up in the area and attended Sierra College completing Fire Prevention 1, SVC ICBO Counter Technician Class, Customer Based Fire Service Program as well as numerous courses offered by the City of Roseville. Besides volunteering in her community, Shari is a Board Member of the Roseville Fire Museum and serves as its representative with the Placer County Historical Society and Museums on the Historical Organizations Committee.
Public Education Coordinator, Tiffany Tate
Tiffany has been working with the Roseville Fire Department since June 2011. She currently serves as the Public Education Coordinator with the department. Tiffany completed Fire Prevention 1 and continues to attend Fire Prevention courses. She attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Cal State Long Beach and has a BA in Liberal Studies along with a California Multi-Subject Teaching Credential. Prior to working with the Roseville Fire Department, Tiffany was an elementary school teacher and worked as a Professional Development Trainer for educators across the United States.
