Roth stated that the victim’s grandson, had been booked in jail for a DUI crash and he was representing the case. Roth stated that the victim would need $8,000 in cash for a plea deal in order to be bailed out of jail. The grandson was not in jail. CRIME TIP: Talk to someone. He said he wanted to send her a package. After confirming the package had shipped, she received a message from the shipping company that said she must pay import taxes on the shipment totaling $1,850. After paying the fee, the shipping company called again and told her the FBI had detained the package at the border and required $15,700 to release it. They went on to say that the shipment was full of cash and the FBI was taxing her. At this point the victim suspected it was fraud. CRIME TIP: Talk to someone.
