2020-00072162 11/25/20 8:00 AM Fraud Highland Reserve 100 Block of Bridgeway Ct Victim received a call regarding a refund from a computer company called “Nex Group Co LLC”. Victim was told the refund was for a pre-paid software service and it was to be in the amount of $430. After the phone call, the company called him back and advised that they had accidentally deposited $43,000 into his bank account instead of $430. They showed victim a false document that showed an extra $43,000 in his account. The victim was directed to wire transfer $42,500 to a bank in Thailand. After victim made the transfer, he realized through online banking that they had not actually deposited $43,000 and that he had been scammed. CRIME TIP: Spot imposters. Scammers often pretend to be someone you trust, like a government official, a family member, a charity, or a company you do business with.
