StoryWalk Comes to Maidu Museum Trail

Updated November 12, 2020

Celebrate Native American Heritage Month at the Maidu Museum with StoryWalk® along the Maidu Museum's Historic Trail. Written by Chiori Santiago and illustrated by Judith Lowry, Home to Medicine Mountain follows the true story of two Mountain Maidu brothers who were taken from their family to an Indian boarding school and their journey back home.

  • What is a StoryWalk®? It is a way for kids (and their grown-ups!) to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Pages of a deconstructed picture book are laminated and then posted on stakes along a trail.
  • Who is it for? The StoryWalk® book was specially selected with 6-10 year olds in mind, but it's great for all who are young at heart.
  • When can I visit? Story pages are posted Friday– Saturday, 9:00 am – 2:00 pm and will be available through December 26.
  • Where is it? Maidu Museum & Historic Site located at 1970 Johnson Ranch Dr. The StoryWalk® follows a 0.5 mile loop along the trail.
This StoryWalk® is free to all visitors. Check out the Maidu Museum's website for more information to plan your visit.

The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. Storywalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.
