As we celebrate National Park and Recreation Month, we’re excited to share that Roseville Parks, Recreation & Libraries (PRL) has once again been named a finalist for the National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management. This prestigious honor is presented by the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration (AAPRA) in partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).

Roseville is one of only four finalists nationwide in the population category of 150,001–400,000. This marks the fourth consecutive year that PRL has earned this national recognition. Being named a finalist highlights PRL’s ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality services, fostering community engagement and enhancing the health and wellness of Roseville residents.

“Being named a finalist for the fourth year in a row is a tremendous achievement,” said City Manager Dominick Casey. “It speaks to the innovation, consistency and passion of our PRL team and our City’s dedication to creating a vibrant and welcoming community for all.”

PRL Director Jill Geller added, “This honor reflects the exceptional work our team does every day from maintaining beautiful parks and trails to delivering enriching programs, cultural experiences and library services. PRL is where people come together, stories are shared and memories are made. We’re proud to be recognized on the national stage once again.”

The National Gold Medal Awards, established in 1965, honor communities that demonstrate excellence in parks and recreation through long-range planning, resource management, volunteerism, environmental stewardship, program development, professional development and agency recognition.

Roseville PRL manages 90 parks, more than 4,000 acres of natural areas, three libraries, three pools, two golf courses, a Native American museum and 21 before- and after-school childcare sites. From storytimes and swim lessons to senior fitness classes and cultural arts programs, PRL offers a wide variety of services for residents of all ages and abilities. Roseville previously received the Gold Medal Award in 1972.

Each finalist is required to create a video highlighting their agency, you can find PRL's video below. The winner of the 2025 National Gold Medal Award will be announced on September 17 during the NRPA Annual Conference.
