Summer Reading June 1 - July 31
2021 Summer Reading Challenge

June 1 - July 31, 2021

Summer is around the corner, and our library aims to prevent 'summer slide' learning loss by encouraging our community to read, imagine and explore along with us! Our Summer Reading Challenge provides an assortment of in-house activities and programs along with virtual resources and activity suggestions so that no matter where you are, you can get in on the fun.

Roseville's Summer Reading Challenge is hosted online through a platform called Beanstack, and it's free and easy to participate. Create an account today by visiting https://roseville.beanstack.org or download the Beanstack Tracker app. You only have to register once, and you will be able to join all of our future reading challenges! The Summer Reading Challenge will appear on our Beanstack page for pre-registration on May 17.

Stay tuned for more details coming soon.

Summer Reading Program is sponsored by Friends of the Roseville Public Library.

Who can participate?

The Summer Reading Program is open to all ages!  We want everyone in our community to participate in the joy of reading and engage in lifelong learning. We will have the same challenge badges for all ages, but we will offer activities, programs and prizes that appeal to a variety of ages.
  • What if my child can't read yet?
They can still participate! Log the minutes that you are reading to them and the time they spend flipping through books together. Listening, following along and imitating reading are all skills that promote literacy and help prepare children to become strong readers.
  • What kind of reading can I log?
Any kind: audiobooks, ebooks, fiction, graphic novels, newspapers, magazines, etc. ALL of it counts! The goal of Summer Reading is to find a format and a genre that you enjoy so that reading is FUN.

Why sign up?

There are several reasons you should participate in summer reading:
  1. It's FREE!
  2. It's fun.
  3. You can earn prizes.
  4. It helps foster a love of reading and develop good reading habits.

How do I sign up and participate?

What prizes can I win?

How do I make reading fun?

Here are some tips for helping everyone in your family enjoy reading:
  • Let everyone pick their own books. (You can offer suggestions, but don't force it!)
  • Read books you like as many times as you want, and give yourself permission to stop reading a book that doesn't capture your interest
  • Find a series you like. (It takes the guesswork out of finding your next read!)
  • Try out new genres and formats like poetry, graphic novels, audiobooks, etc.
  • Read together as a family. Share books you've enjoyed, read a book aloud together, and talk about the characters and plots you most enjoyed
  • Surround yourself with lots of books!
