Karen Alvord was elected to the Roseville City Council (District 5) in 2024 and will serve as Vice Mayor until the end of 2026 when she will assume the role of Mayor until 2028.

A Northern California native, Karen and her husband, Scott, have called Roseville home since 1988. Together, they raised their seven children while actively contributing to the community. They moved from central Roseville to Westpark in 2015.

Karen brings a wealth of experience from her distinguished career in public service. She began as a social worker before spending 14 years as CEO of Lilliput Families, a statewide child and family service agency, where she worked to ensure safety, stability, and lifelong families for children in the foster care system. She later served as CEO of Make-A-Wish (CA/NV), where she united communities to grant life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Currently, Karen serves as a Director at PRIDE Industries, a social enterprise headquartered in Roseville, supporting employment opportunities across the nation for people with disabilities, veterans, and others with barriers to employment.

In addition to her nonprofit management experience, Karen and Scott owned and operated A Dash of Panache, a cherished downtown Roseville business, for over a decade. Karen holds dual masters’ degrees in social work and business and she is a graduate of the Sacramento Metro Leadership Program, Leadership California, and Sierra Health Foundation’s Health Leadership Program—experiences that strengthened her knowledge of regional and statewide challenges, emerging trends, and collaborative problem solving.

Her contributions to the community have earned her numerous accolades, including the Sacramento region’s Nonprofit Executive of the Year award and the Sacramento Business Journal’s Women Who Mean Business honor.

Karen’s extensive background in nonprofit leadership, small business ownership, and community service empowers her to bring a compassionate, informed, and collaborative perspective to the City Council. She is dedicated to enhancing Roseville’s quality of life by prioritizing public safety, strengthening our city’s economic opportunities, and fostering inclusive growth and community well-being.
