The victim was called by a number not recognized. The person on the other end of the line asked if they had purchased an Apple Macbook and had it delivered to Albany. The victim replied that they did not, and the person on the phone told them that their bank account had been compromised. After several redirects, the victim was instructed to go to their bank and withdraw all of their cash to save it from being stolen. The victim did so without question. The suspect then told the victim that it would be illegal for him to keep so much physical cash in one place, so they would need to find a place to store it. The suspect then offered to have “an agent” come to the victim's residence to pick the money up in person, promising the victim that the money would be returned the next day to a proper bank account. At approximately 2230 hours on 3/22/2024, a male came to the victim's residence and was given the cash. The victim stated that he emptied his bank account and gave it all to this suspect, for a total of $31,400. |
