Roseville City Councilmember Bruce Houdesheldt was sworn in as Roseville’s 58th Mayor for a two-year term at the December 21 City Council meeting. Houdesheldt had served as Vice Mayor for the previous two years.
Incumbents Krista Bernasconi (District 4) and Pauline Roccucci (District 2) were also sworn in at the City Council meeting. Each won reelection to the City Council in the November 2022 election. Bernasconi will serve as Vice Mayor for the next two years.
Before joining the City Council in 2019, Houdesheldt served on the Roseville Public Utilities Commission (2010-2012), and Planning Commission (2012-2019). A native of Washington, D.C., and graduate of the University of Maryland, Houdesheldt has lived in the South Placer region since 1991. He is the Director of Water Quality at the Northern California Water Association (NCWA), where he was worked for the past 15 years. Read more about Mayor Houdesheldt here.
With the charter amendments approved by voters in 2020 election, this year begins a numerical rotation by district number for the mayoral seat. New Mayor Houdesheldt was elected to City Council from district 3, and a random draw in 2020 determined that the rotational process would begin with his district. He will serve as mayor for two years while Councilmember Bernasconi from district 4 serves as vice mayor. Bernasconi will then become mayor at the end of Houdesheldt’s term in 2024, with the Councilmember from district 5 serving as vice mayor.
“For nearly four years I have had the benefit of seeing firsthand how each of the Councilmembers in their own way serves the community. That will help guide me as we work together for the benefit of the residents and businesses of Roseville," said Houdesheldt. "The whole of this Council is greater than the sum of its parts.”
