Just after 7pm on January 15th a shooting occurred in Placer County. A broadcast of the suspect vehicle description was put out to surrounding agencies. As Roseville Police Officers responded, they located a vehicle matching the description near the interchange of I-80 and Hwy 65.
At approximately 8:30 p.m. officers attempted to make contact with the suspect. The suspect did not comply with officers commands. The suspect brandished a weapon and pointed it towards the officers. A shooting ensued which involved multiple law enforcement officers from multiple agencies. The suspect was mortally wounded. During this event a PCSO K-9 was also wounded.
The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. The canine was shot but expected to survive. None of the officers involved sustained injuries. A weapon was recovered at the scene.
The Roseville Police Department is investigating the officer involved shooting in conjunction with the Placer County District Attorney’s Office. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incidents that led up to the shooting.
There have been no other reports of any outstanding suspects. There is no further threat to the community at this time.
