The City of Roseville received $17 million in one-time funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021 to assist with City and community needs. The Roseville City Council allocated $1 million of these funds to the Roseville Grants Advisory Commission for distribution to the Roseville community over three years. The first year of grant awards from the ARPA funding totaling $350,000 was approved by the City Council at its November 3, 2022 meeting.

Recently, Zelle scams have been in the news. Zelle is a peer-to-peer (P2P) payment method. Zelle is an easy way of sending money from one person to another in just minutes. Let’s say you want to send money to your grandson for his graduation. All you need to transfer the money is his mobile phone number or email address. Last year 1.8 billion payments were made using Zelle. With so many people using Zelle, it’s no wonder that criminals are targeting their users. Criminals are tricking users into sending them money. Once you send money using Zelle you have very little recourse in getting your money bank. Since scam victims willingly send money to the scammers, banks and credit unions are not responsible for money lost.

Recently there's been an increase in reported incidents of skimming devices in Roseville. Skimming occurs when devices illegally installed on ATMs, POS terminals, or fuel pumps capture data or record cardholders’ PINs. Criminals use the data to create fake debit or credit cards and then steal from victims’ accounts. It's estimated that skimming costs financial institutions and consumers more than $1 billion each year.

Cloth face coverings - such as a bandana, scarf or homemade cloth cover - are now recommended when leaving the house for essential activities. This was announced by Placer County Health Officer Dr. Aimee Sisson to further slow the spread of COVID-19. The cloth face coverings recommended are not surgical masks or N-95 respirators. Those are critical supplies that must continue to be reserved for healthcare workers and first responders. Face coverings should be used in tandem with, not in place of, other strategies. It is critical to emphasize that maintaining 6-feet social distancing remains important to slowing the spread of the virus.

Local non-profits receive city grants to improve quality of life for Roseville residents in need

Fifteen non-profit organizations serving Roseville residents collectively received more than $350,000 this summer from the City of Roseville through the City’s competitive annual grant program. These groups address a wide span of social needs including disability awareness, hunger, homelessness, and veterans’ needs.
