For nearly 40 years, July has been a time to celebrate National Park and Recreation Month, promoting the power of parks and recreation in building strong, vibrant and resilient communities. This month is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating recreation professionals who maintain our city’s community parks, run our recreational programs and events as well as our libraries.
This year's theme — "Where You Belong" — highlights the many ways park and recreation professionals across the country foster a sense of belonging in our communities. Roseville Parks, Recreation & Libraries is proud to contribute to this mission. “We believe in the power of parks and recreation to bring people together. Our programs and spaces are designed to be inclusive and welcoming, ensuring that everyone in our community feels a sense of belonging and connection,” says Jill Geller, Director of Roseville Parks, Recreation & Libraries.
Roseville PRL was recently named as a finalist for the prestigious National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management for the third year in a row. The award is given out bythe American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration (AAPRA), in partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). The Gold Medal Awards program honors communities in the United States that demonstrate excellence in parks and recreation through long-range planning, resource management, volunteerism, environmental stewardship, program development, professional development and agency recognition. This year's winners will be announced at the 2024 NRPA Annual Conference in October.
